We're just two days away from the start of the Berlin International Film Festival, where movies like the Sundance darling "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" will play in front of a European audience for the first time.

Evan Rachel Wood Promises Shia LaBeouf A Kiss In This Clip From 'Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman'

In the lead-up to the festival, MTV News has been given an exclusive first look at the film starring Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood. The clip nicely sets up the romantic and slightly surreal feel from the movie, which generated a good amount of buzz last month in Park City, Utah.

Aside from starting discussion among the buyers at Sundance, LaBeouf's performance in "Charlie Countryman" grabbed early headlines when it was revealed that the star dropped acid on set in order to get a better sense of his character.

When MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with LaBeouf and Wood at Sundance, the topic of his trip came up, and the actor explained that it was his fear that drove him to experiment.

"That's what propels things like that — being nervous that you're not going to get it right or it's not going to be honest," LaBeouf said. "You subject yourself to things and you can't choose your thoughts. You can't choose your feelings. But you can really influence them, and I just try to influence myself as much as possible."

Never meaning to cause a scene on set, LaBeouf clarified his intentions. "But not because I'm wanting to be on drugs," he said. "I'm not trying to mess with the set or anything like that. It's really just fear that propels people."
